Hillyard’s rich history and vibrant community spirit are celebrated annually through events tied to The Hillyard Festival.
Since 1911, the Hillyard community has held a three-day celebration each August in Sharpley Harmon Park. Over the years, it has been known by several names — including Hi-Jinx, Hillyard Heritage Celebrations, and Hillyard Days — yet its purpose in bringing the community together remains unchanged. The Hillyard Festival honors the neighborhood’s heritage as a historic railroad town and stimulates the local economy by attracting visitors to support local businesses.
Festival events celebrate Hillyard for its historic charm and act as a catalyst for community engagement and revitalization. Historic tours and museum exhibits highlight the neighborhood’s Great Northern Railroad heritage and connect attendees to Hillyard’s past, while food and artisan vendors, live music, and the Roll ‘N’ Hillyard Car Show foster a sense of community and shared pride in the neighborhood’s identity.
The Hillyard Hi-Jinks Parade, organized by Hillyard Heritage Celebrations with support from Organizations of Northeast Spokane (ONES), proceeds down North Market Street with a diverse lineup of participants in cars, motorcycles, bikes, floats, and on foot. Adding to the festival’s celebrations, the parade concludes in Sharpley Harmon Park, rounding out a weekend that celebrates the community’s tradition and unity.
